About Us
Flipped Mitten Press champions emerging authors, especially those who are frequently overlooked by the publishing industry.
What do we mean by “overlooked” authors? To us, this looks like (but isn’t limited to): BIPOC, women, LGBTQ+, neurodiverse, disabled, and working-class writers. If you face systemic barriers while trying to break into the literary world, we mean you.
As we deeply understand the power of storytelling and resilience, we’re committed to fostering a nurturing environment where authors find support, encouragement, and compensation for their creative work.

Kristy Burmeister
As a disabled memoirist and poet, Kristy intimately understands both the writer’s creative journey as well as some of the systemic barriers authors face along the way to publication. With over a decade of experience in finance, Kristy can also pivot a table with the best of them. Her previous business experience ensures Flipped Mitten Press thrives not only as a creative hub, but also as a lean, well-structured business.
Beyond her literary pursuits, Kristy spends time parenting her teenage children, reading old death certificates, creating post-apocalyptic spreadsheets, learning Italian, and watching history documentaries.
